Travis Smith, PhD, LPC
Travis Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Doctor of Counseling and Supervision (PhD). Travis received his Master's in Marital, Couple and Family of Counseling in 2006 and his Doctorate in Counselor Education and Counseling in 2009 from Idaho State University.
In addition to being Director & Owner of Great Oak Counseling, Travis is an Associate Professor at Southeast Missouri State University. Before moving to Missouri in 2009, Dr. Smith co-owned and operated Center Counseling PSR, a successful Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program that serves youth with severe emotional and behavioral disturbance. He also maintained a part time private practice where he specialized in working with couples and issues related to infidelity, sexual addiction, and pornography addiction. Since arriving in Missouri, Travis served as a consultant to the Gibson Recovery Center for drug and alcohol treatment until 2014.
Travis has presented at the local, state and national levels and published his research on topics related to couples counseling, private practice, ethics in counseling and addiction recovery and treatment. As a public speaker, Travis has been a keynote speaker on the impact of social media and pornography on teens at workshops and conferences.
Travis also has advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EFT is widely accepted as one of the most effective models of couples counseling that focuses on establishing emotionally fulfilling communication and intimacy in relationships. EMDR is a revolutionary treatment approach for PTSD and trauma and recognized world wide as one of the most effective ways of alleviating anxiety and issues related to past trauma from sexual abuse, accidents and even phobias.
In February 2013, Dr. Smith was featured on Oprah Winfrey's Network on the series, "Unfaithful" as an expert in treating sexual addiction and issues related to infidelity.
When not involved with his professional responsibilities, Travis enjoys spending time with his wife and 4 children, playing basketball, running and listening to music.
